Today, Yarrow Park at GIIS East Coast Campus had the honour of welcoming Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Minister Edwin Tong for a special walkabout, showcasing the power of partnerships between public leaders and private institutions in creating meaningful, inclusive spaces.

Joined by GSG Chairman Mr. Atul Temurnikar and Country Director Mr. Prashant Bafna, the ministers explored the vibrant park—once a basketball court at GIIS East Coast—now thoughtfully transformed into a 3G (three-generation) space for the Joo Chiat community.

Their visit highlighted the strength of collaboration in shaping spaces that foster community engagement, wellness, and connection. From a children’s playground to outdoor fitness areas and access to the 400-metre school track, Yarrow Park stands as a testament to how shared spaces inspire connection, wellness, and belonging.

A Creative Start to the Academic Year

Our CBSE 1 students began their school year with an engaging and artistic activity, designing and crafting vibrant crowns. This creative exercise allowed them to express their individuality while celebrating the excitement of a new academic journey. It was truly inspiring to see their enthusiasm as they proudly wore their handmade crowns.

Exploring Vietnam: Our students from Grades 6-9 took a 3day trip to Vietnam in March. They visited historical sites, including Ho Chi Minh City and the Cu Chi Tunnels, and an orphanage. This trip helped them to unwind after the year end exam and not only enriched our understanding of Vietnam's past and present but also deepened our appreciation for the power of connection and empathy.

✨A Moment of Pride at the IB Global Conference! ✨
On March 21, 2025, our students performed "Rhythm of Resilience" at the IB Global Conference in Singapore, telling a story of dreams and perseverance with dances like "Dreamer" and "Fight Song." They captivated 1,700 educators and leaders, earning praise from Principal Ms. Deepika Sodhi for showcasing the IB attribute of resilience. Congratulations to the talented performers!

Today is World Poetry Day, a time to celebrate the power of words and creative expression. To mark the occasion, we’re bringing back a special episode featuring Riya Mehta, an IB Year 2 student from GIIS SMART Campus, whose love for poetry has shaped a remarkable journey.

Hosted by Srishti Hariharan (IGCSE 10), this heartfelt conversation takes us through Riya’s evolution as a poet—from scribbling verses in her notebook to securing 2nd place in the last year's prestigious Write and Burn National Poetry Competition, organised by the Singapore Poetry Festival.

She shares the inspirations behind her award-winning poem, "Flowers Die, Don’t They?", her creative process, and her dreams of publishing her own poetry collection.

Leadership Interaction with Madam Lim Sue Luan
We had the honour of hosting Madam Lim Sue Luan for an inspiring Leadership Interaction as part of our Guest lecture Series. Our students got a deeper understanding of the journeys and insights of professionals who have mastered their craft.
During the session, she captivated students with her unique approach to finger painting.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Madam Lim Sue Luan for sharing her expertise and inspiring our students to embrace both the analytical and the artistic in their pursuits.

To be internationally minded, students must first understand and appreciate their own culture!

At GIIS, we provide students from diverse backgrounds with the opportunity to explore their own cultures, languages, traditions, and practices. By deeply understanding their heritage, they develop a genuine love and respect for the cultures and traditions of other communities, fostering a truly global perspective.

As part of a recent activity, our Tamil students from Grades 4 and 5 engaged in a team activity to explore the significance of Navadhanya—a mixture of nine grains traditionally used in Indian cuisine and prayers. This hands-on experience helped students connect with cultural traditions while learning about the nutritional and spiritual importance of these grains.

What a wonderful way to explore and familiarise yourself with good practices that's part of the culture.
